Nestled in the heart of Kibale, in the Rakai district of Uganda, lies a vibrant community of mothers whose strength and resilience inspire us every day. Woven Rose began as a small spark of an idea: a way to honor their unwavering spirit while creating something beautiful and meaningful.
My journey started with a single basket, handwoven with care, precision, and a deep connection to modern weaving artistry. These baskets & crafts are more than just products—they are vessels of hope, joy, and empowerment. At Woven Rose, I believe that every thread tells a story, and every weave represents my mission & vision.
Nalubega Gibson Founder & CEO of Woven Rose
About the Founder
Nalubega, was born in the village of Kibale and was blessed with the opportunity to be adopted and brought to the United States. This journey instilled in me a profound sense of purpose—to give back to the community that shaped my early years. Understanding firsthand the challenges faced by new mothers in Kibale, Uganda especially those who lack resources and support, I established Woven Rose to make a tangible difference in their lives.
My Craft and Impact
Currently, I handcraft each basket in Daytona Beach, Florida, selling them on the Woven Rose website, and at local craft fairs. The profits are sent back to the clinic in Kibale, providing new mothers with essential supplies for their newborns.
My ultimate goal is to empower these women by teaching them the art of baskets & crafts weaving, enabling them to generate income and achieve self-reliance. This initiative not only offers financial independence but also fosters a supportive community where women can bond and share their experiences.
My mother, who adopted me and my two sisters.
